In September 2010, Shop at my Local worked alongside Bou-Chic to promote and deliver the Eco Designer of the Year Award 2010.The concept was to recycle and revamp either your old clothes or something you had bought from a second hand shop into something that you could wear or use again. This could be any from cutting up a pair of jeans to make a handbag to adapting a long dress to become short! The competition was promoted to all the local schools and leaflets were given out to every customer at Bou-Chic.
In total, 31 people took part and uploaded their before and after pictures to the Shop at my Local website whereby people could vote to judge the winners. We received a staggering amount of votes and by the time the deadline came, we had received over 2500 hits to the website! The designs were split into two categories, under 18's and over 18's and a panel of judges were also able to give their votes.
To celebrate the success of the competition and to present the winners with their awards we held 'The Eco Design of the Year Awards' at The Mill Hall on Friday 22nd November. This consisted of a fun filled evening of dancers, a fashion show, a Michael Buble tribute act, the awards ceremony and an after show party. Lots of prizes were donated from local businesses that are part of the Shop at my Local campaign and each winner got to come up on stage and collect their prize and certificate.
The event was a huge success and we would like a say a huge thank you to everybody that entered and congratulations to the winners! We hope that we will be able to run The Eco Designer of the Year 2011 Awards so please keep checking the news and events listing for more information in 2011!
