Representatives of Rochford District Council attending the awards with Cathy Cook (Senior Recycling Officer) and Cllr Mike Steptoe (Portfolio Holder for the Environment) presented the winners of the Environmental Awareness Category with their awards on Stage.
The event was a huge success especially as a Rochford District based business nearly won every category! We would like to congratulate all of the winners of the Southend Business Awards 2010 and to celebrate the success of our Rochford winners we have included a small case study and photo of each below.
Public Sewer Services
Winners of the Environmental Awareness Award and Business to Business Award. At Public Sewer Services our primary concern is to protect our environment from pollution. We undertake sewer installation, repair, renovation and maintenance.
All these services impact directly with our environment . We are regularly involved in the prevention of pollution to lakes, rivers and coastal waters. The purity of our drinking water and the safe disposal of both domestic and industrial waste depends upon the quality of service we offer our customers, both industrial and domestic.
Our overall policy is to do all we can to reduce our carbon footprint and we are prepared to put a financial premium on making our Company a Green Company.
Our trenchless methods – impact moling, pitch fibre reforming, directional drilling, pipe bursting, structural pipe lining and patch repairs cause far less pollution than conventional open cut methods.
Public Sewer Services - leading the way in the safe disposal of domestic and industrial waste.
Chairman Cliff Messiter says - “We are a doubly local firm. All our board of directors were educated within and are resident within the Southend, Rochford, Basildon and Chelmsford areas. We are Essex men and women and proud of it! Public Sewer Services were originally located in Wickford and at that time we sponsored the Basildon Awards. With our move to Rochford we were naturally interested in the Southend Awards. This time we thought we would like to enter and we are naturally both delighted and proud at having won two categories. In 2011 we will again be involved as sponsors of a category, this time within the Essex Awards!”
Molossi Ltd
Winners of the Excellent Customer Service Award.Molossi Ltd was set up in 2005 and business is growing strong to the present day. The reason why Leo Molossi decided to take a leap in to the business world was to show how services to customers should be provided as many years working for other companies gave him a great insight in to the "get in get out attitude". Customers want their requests done exactly how they picture it in their minds and undertaken professionally. To Leo this has been the key to his companies success.
In 2010 Molossi Ltd won an award at the Southend business awards for the Excellent Customers Service category. This was a huge reward for all the hard work that they put in to try and please their customers. After our award this was published in the local newspapers which rewarded them with new business. Molossi highly recommend being part of the awards scheme as its a brilliant event to be apart of even if you're not a winner.
Lords Golf and Country Club
Winners of the Leisure and Tourism Award.Toni and Derek Govey took over Lord’s Golf and Country Club in November 2006. Since then they have carried out extensive refurbishment at a cost of over £2 million to make it a tourist attraction for the Rochford District.
The two fantastic golf courses have been redesigned which in turn has increased the membership from 200 to a staggering 800! Not only is Lord’s Gold and Country Club used as a sports facility, many people and families come here for event evenings, Sunday lunches (Kids eat free!), weddings, christenings, funerals and much more.
Lord’s Golf and Country Club have been licensed to hold weddings for 3 years and so far in 2010 they have held 90 weddings. Approximately 80% of weddings in the Rochford District are held at Lord’s Golf and Country Club.
There are many themed evenings held here including ‘Over 25’s night’ with Martin Day Entertainments and 80% of people who attend are not members of the club. On Firework’s Night there was over 3000 people enjoying the display on the golf course, a huge increase from the 900 people who attended 2 years ago.
In January a massive campaign along with Heart Fm is to take place to find new talent in Essex, the winner will receive an astounding £10,000!
Lord’s Golf and Country Club is providing a huge amount for Leisure and Tourism in Rochford and proved this by entering and winning the ‘Leisure and Tourism’ Category in the Southend Business Awards. Toni and Derek are extremely proud of their success and even held a celebratory lunch at the club for all the winners of the Southend Business Awards!.
Truly Delicious
Winners of the Retail Award.Annette Clews first contacted Rochford District Council in February 2010 when she was thinking of setting up her own business. After lots of help and support, Annette had decided that her dream of opening a chocolate shop was soon to become a reality. After finding the perfect unit in Berry’s Arcade, Rayleigh, Annette officially opened her doors on 29th May 2010.
Since opening Truly Delicious, Annette has expanded her business from chocolate truffles to diabetic, gluten free and diary free chocolate. She is also working closely with local businesses such as Mulu Chocolate and The Clay Cottage. Annette has even printed double sided leaflets with Bou-Chic who are located next door.
Annette was working alone at Truly Delicious but now has 1 member of staff who works on a Saturday and lots of friends and family who help out during busy periods.
Annette has promoted her business through the Shop at my Local campaign and also through the Rayleigh Times and a leaflet drop. However word is spreading about Truly Delicious and Annette is now making chocolate favours for businesses and weddings.
Annette decided to apply for the Southend Business Awards after seeing information through the Rochford Business Network and also being contacted by the Echo. Although it had only been a few month’s since opening, Annette decided to apply for the ‘Retail’ category and was overwhelmed after being shortlisted for the finals! Annette was judged and received her invitation for the awards and was supported by many of her friends and family who help out with the business. Annette won the small business award for the ‘Retail’ category and was ecstatic
Peafs Farm & Deli
Highly commended Award.
Booster Limited
Highly commended AwardIn 2003 David Haydon recognised the need for a device which would enable central heating radiators to perform quicker and more efficiently. A 'prototype' was built and proved to be very successful in heating our rooms much faster, allowing our heating system to shut down much sooner, saving energy (and money) as well as wear & tear.
After four years of trials and product development, in 2007 the first design, the RB1-700 was presented to the BBC TV program Dragon's Den.
The Dragons declined to invest, so David decided to invest his own money, worked with the largest UK Eco-Product Retailer, and after 3 years have now established Radiator BOOster® as a leading energy saving device in the UK. Furthermore, these are now being distributed in Germany, Holland, France, Poland, Hungary and USA. Within the next two years Radiator BOOster® is set to become a global product, proving to be without doubt the world’s greatest-energy-saving invention easily affordable to the average household. Our 2010 Patent Design, the RB-707-TT has already sold 40,000+ across Europe, with yet new Patent models due for release early 2011.
David decided to enter the Southend Business Awards after receiving information from the Rochford Business Network and since entering and receiving the ‘Highly Commended in the New Business Category’ at the 2010 Southend-On-Sea Business awards, has immediately drawn the product's attention to a much greater audience with interest now blooming from many interested newspapers, magazines, retail companies, Eco-Green organisations, and so on. The Radiator Booster Company look forward to building the business and hopefully winning an award at the Southend Business Awards 2011!
